Nelle Handbags to Appear at Henri Bendel

Nelle handbags will make an appearance in the windows at Henri Bendel next week as part of the promotion for the upcoming Independent Handbag Designer Awards. Nelle handbags will also be in store at Bendel’s June 12- 14, Bendel’s will be the first U.S. retailer to sell my new Nelle Day Collection! I am just thrilled that I am able to launch it there. It has been a dream of mine to have Henri Bendel sell my line, and I am just tickled. I invite you to please stop in and see the new collection. You may even get the chance to meet me as I will be out in NY and plan on stopping in whenever I can.
Nelle is a Finalist! Independant Handbag Designer Awards
Monday, April 28th, 2008Imagine my surprise when I checked my voice mail this morning and discovered that my bag was selected as a top five finalist in the Handmade Handbag category of the 2008 Independent Handbag Design Awards. If my clutch wins its category my bag will be featured in a window display at Henri Bendel and I will be invited with the other 5 winners to hold a trunk show at the legendary department store. Every time I think about this my heart skips a beat, it has been a dream of mine to have my bags at the store - shriek! Breathe….
Above is the clutch that is up for the award, it is a part of my 2008 Nelle Day Collection which will be available on-line the second week of May. It is the only 100 percent fabric bag in the Handmade Handbag category, which is amazing!

Ribbons of Winter Inspire 2008 Nelle Wedding
Sunday, December 30th, 2007I am busy sewing up my 2008 wedding collection right now. All of the pieces for this years collection have been inspired by the starkness of our Minnesota winter season. Something about working with the simple colors of white, gray, and black is refreshing. It is nice to create a collection that has such a clear and concise color palette after such a colorful holiday season. Never fear though, 2008’s wedding collection will not be dull. I will be adding statement making embellishments to the collection with the help of some beautiful ribbon that I have recently acquired.
I think that the ombre ribbon is particularly lovely and am dying to pair it with vintage pieces and gray freshwater pearls. I found this ribbon at the Macy’s Minneapolis flea market. The ribbon is from VV Rouleaux, a fantastic trim store in London. Luckily VV Rouleaux has a wonderful online store so picking out a variety of delightful ribbon is easy for anyone.

I have delivered my first Nelle holiday shipment to Clutch so I invite you to make your way to 50th and France this weekend and be the first to see the new line. I will have the collection up and ready for ordering on Tuesday. This year it was about extremes for Nelle holiday, from over-sized black velvet clutches to teeny tiny evening bags the holiday collection is fun, fun, fun! The colors are just delicious and I enjoyed mixing the colors in unexpected ways. I adore this new palette so expect to see them when I unveil Nelle 2008! Featured above is the Mini Bauble evening bag in an absolute favorite color combination of coral, toffee, and black. I can just picture this on the arm of a spirited and adventurous woman while she is tossing back a few cocktails at a holiday party. At $70 this little fashion statement will end up being a favorite accessory that adds a dash of excitement to the classic cocktail dress.
A wallet is so practical but I wanted to add a bit of play to this classic and versatile piece. Spring Fashion Week 2008- Is Nelle on Trend?

I generally start designing each new collection 9 months out from January 1 of the following year, example: my upcoming 2008 collection I started sketching out in March of 2007. I truly enjoy determining what my new line will be and use a series of “scientific” methods to establish the tone of each collection. These scientific methods include paying close attention to the under currents of the fashion world/independent design, new innovations, and following the general sources of fashion information. I also track a great deal of interior design/decorating as it is amazing how closely the two areas are linked.
What I have noticed is that there are usually 2 general themes running in fashion - right now it happens to be and eighties revival (ugh) and a focus on natural fibers juxtaposed with some opulence. My upcoming Nelle collection is the later and I will be using some similar techniques that are used through out these photos.
Some believe that there is no correlation between accessory design and runway -but I like to use the shows as a way to check my upcoming collection and make sure that it is on trend as well as complimentary of the season’s most exciting fashions. So, is Nelle 2008 on trend? It depends - mass market stores will snap up the 80’s trend because they can reproduce knock-offs at a low cost, however designer boutiques will carry through the looks presented by other designers that focus on the juxtaposition of natural fibers and opulence. Designer boutiques our my customers, therefore Nelle is on trend.
